Pam & Mark's Boudoir Wedding: Dinosaurs, Delays, and a Whole Lotta Love at Dalkeith Country Park

Dalkeith Country Park. Just the name evokes images of rolling landscapes, historic grandeur, and a sense of magic. That same atmosphere set the scene for Pam and Mark’s intimate wedding, a celebration that embraced warmth and laughter on a crisp winter’s day. Adding to the energy of the occasion, their wedding coincided with the launch of Dalkeith Country Park’s new Lego dinosaur walk. The park was alive with families and dinosaur enthusiasts, bringing an extra sense of excitement.

As a photographer still relatively new to weddings, this one felt particularly special. Rather than a massive hall filled with hundreds of guests, Pam and Mark chose the charming Boudoir Room for their ceremony. With just 20 of their closest friends and family gathered in an elegant space, the atmosphere was intimate and personal. The entire day was filled with humour and an easy-going attitude that made it a joy to capture.

Every wedding has its unique moments, and Pam and Mark’s was no exception. Pam kept everyone on their toes with a fashionably late, slightly nerve-wracking 30-minute bridal delay. But when she finally arrived, all was forgotten. She looked stunning. By her side was her "Man of Honour," the ever-reliable Fozzy, offering unwavering support and ensuring every detail unfolded as planned.

The guests brought a real sense of energy to the day, their excitement for Pam and Mark evident in every way. Mark’s best man, Aldo, was a pillar of support, keeping spirits high with his humour. Among the most memorable additions to the wedding were their two Labradors, who stayed calm and well behaved throughout.

The weather, though brisk, remained dry—ideal conditions for capturing some magical moments. A particular highlight was our session in the historic Orangerie. The sandstone structure provided a beautiful backdrop, and the resulting images are nothing short of breathtaking.

Photographing in the Boudoir Room, however, presented its own challenges. At 6m x 6m, the intimate space required careful navigation. The low light conditions added another layer of complexity, demanding a precise balance between natural and artificial lights to ensure the images retained their warmth. Preparation was key—having the right lenses, external flashes, and a strategy for working within the room’s constraints allowed me to capture each moment beautifully. Adaptability and quick thinking played a crucial role in ensuring the final images reflected the essence of the day.

The team at Dalkeith Country Park deserves recognition for their attentiveness. Their efficiency ensured everything flowed smoothly. The Humanist Celebrant, David Elder, delivered a ceremony that was deeply personal and heartfelt, perfectly capturing the essence of Pam and Mark’s story.

The speeches were another standout moment. They were not only filled with humour but also deeply moving, bringing many of the guests to tears. Fozzy’s speech, in particular, had everyone laughing, even if he did call Pam a “wee dick”! It was a term of affection I’m told. :-)

As the evening wound down and the last of the dinosaur-seekers departed, guests gathered to form a glowing sparkler tunnel. Pam and Mark walked through, surrounded by warmth and light, stepping into their next chapter together.

Their wedding proved that a grand, lavish affair is not a requirement for something truly memorable. The most intimate celebrations, filled with laughter, love, and even a touch of Lego dinosaur magic, are often the most special. Wishing Pam and Mark a lifetime of happiness together.
