When Easa and Andrew asked me to photograph their wedding at Cottiers Theatre in Glasgow, I knew it was going to be special. The place itself is stunning, once the Dowanhill Parish Church designed by William Leiper in the 1860s and it holds a personal connection for me. My mum used to go to church just around the corner when she was a child, so it felt like a full-circle moment.

If you’ve never been to Cottiers, it’s a treat. Towering windows, intricate stonework, and those incredible stained glass designs by Daniel Cottier himself. The light in the evening is perfect for photos, and the atmosphere has this mix of history, romance and just a hint of drama. The highlight for me was definitely the balcony access. Slightly risky, involved a few signatures to keep the Health and Safety police happy, but absolutely worth it for those shots.

Easa and Andrew’s day was a joy from start to finish. I arrived early, and the calm before the storm gave us time for some relaxed portraits of Andrew, his best man, and the groomsmen. Then, up the ladder I went (again) to grab some wide shots of the venue. My estate agent photography skills finally came in handy at a wedding!

When Easa arrived with her bridesmaids, the energy shifted instantly. Smiles, excitement, nerves, dresses everywhere — the good kind of chaos. Their son Jamie was a wee star, totally chilled, and stole everyone’s heart when he handed over the rings and took part in the hand-fasting ceremony. It was one of those moments you can feel everyone smiling behind the cameras.


During the ceremony, I quietly (or as quietly as possible while climbing a ladder) took a few overhead shots to show the full beauty of the building. After the vows came the confetti, the group shots on the church steps, and some gorgeous portraits of Easa and Andrew framed by the old stonework which is my favourite kind of backdrop.


The speeches were a mix of laughter, emotion, and a few tears. Easa’s speech in particular was heartfelt and brilliant, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. The Cottiers staff were amazing too, helping everything run smoothly so the couple could just enjoy their day.


The whole wedding was a perfect mix of warmth, laughter and meaning, set against a venue that’s packed with history and charm. I loved every minute, from Jamie’s ring delivery to the balcony shots and the relaxed portraits on road outside.
