Thanks for stopping by. I’m Alan, a documentary wedding photographer based near Edinburgh, Scotland. I specialise in wedding and event portrait photography that feels natural and relaxed. My goal is simple: to tell real stories through my images. Whether it’s the emotion of a wedding or the laughter at a family celebration, I want every photograph to feel real.
I've been behind a camera since I was 16, when I bought my first film camera. I still have it today. Since then, I've photographed everything from wildlife and sport to astrophotography, macro and landscapes. It's taught me to anticipate moments, work in challenging light and look for the details others might miss. That experience comes into its own at weddings, where the available light can change in an instant. My approach is documentary-led: capturing the real moments, genuine emotions and connections that make your day yours.
Away from the camera, I studied at the University of Strathclyde, spent seven years living in Caithness and now call Kinross home. I'm a Duke of Edinburgh leader, a volunteer Community First Responder with the Scottish Ambulance Service, with more than 350 emergency calls under my belt, and a dad to three boys. My eldest, Adam, shares my passion for photography and often joins me as a second photographer at weddings. My wife is a maths teacher and keeps us all in line!
I want my couples to feel comfortable enough to be themselves, have a laugh and enjoy their day without worrying about the camera. I believe everyone deserves to feel welcome, included and represented, and I'm proud to photograph people and celebrations of all kinds.
