Thanks for stopping by. I’m Alan, a documentary wedding photographer based near Edinburgh, Scotland. I specialise in wedding and event photography that feels natural and relaxed. My goal is simple: to tell real stories through my images. Whether it’s the emotion of a wedding or the laughter at a family celebration, I want every photograph to feel real.

I’ve been behind the camera since I was 16, when I bought my first film camera — and I still have it to this day. Over the years, I’ve explored all kinds of photography: patiently waiting for the perfect wildlife shot, freezing the fast-paced action of sports, capturing the night sky through astrophotography, diving into tiny macro details, and composing sweeping landscapes that tell their own story. Every experience has shaped the way I see the world and helped me develop a unique perspective and skill set.

This background, along with my experience in low-light photography and flash, means I’m ready for whatever your wedding day brings. I approach every wedding not just as a photographer but as a storyteller, focused on capturing the real moments, emotions, and connections that make your day truly yours.

I got married myself at the beautiful Dunfermline Abbey, back when professional digital cameras were still new. We chose to capture our wedding entirely on film, and I’ll never forget the slight panic when my wife kept blinking in portraits and the photographer’s assistant had to rush to the shop for more film! While I love the flexibility of digital, I still offer film photography as an optional extra for couples who appreciate its timeless, nostalgic charm.

Outside of photography, I studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, lived in Caithness for seven years, and now call Kinross home. I’m a Duke of Edinburgh leader, a volunteer Community First Responder with the Scottish Ambulance Service (I’ve attended over 330 emergency calls), and a dad to three teenage boys. My eldest, Adam, is a keen sports photographer and often joins me to second-shoot at weddings. My amazing wife is a maths teacher and keeps us all in line!

For me, great photography is all about connection. I want every couple I work with to feel relaxed, comfortable, and confident in front of the camera. I believe in equality and inclusivity, and I’m proud to offer a welcoming experience for everyone I photograph, celebrating the individuality and stories that make each of us unique.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my work. Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’m always grateful when someone trusts me to capture their story. Whether you’re planning a wedding, a family celebration or just want to create something special, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch, tell me a bit about your plans, and let’s start creating photographs you’ll enjoy for years to come.
