I recently had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Nicola and Adam, beginning at Dunfermline Registrar Office and continuing the celebrations at Kirkcaldy Golf Club in Fife. It was a day filled with laughter, love and a few surprises — the kind of wedding every photographer hopes for.

The Dunfermline Registrar Office, located in the historic City Chambers, is a stunning venue. Built exactly 100 years before I was born, the building combines French Gothic and Scots styles. With its stunning clock tower, carved stonework and sweeping staircase, it’s a dream location for wedding photography.

When I arrived early to set up, there was a slight hiccup, the lock wouldn’t open! Staff were frantically trying to find a solution, and after a short delay, a hero with a spare key arrived to save the day. We were soon inside this beautiful old building, ready to get going.

The registrar was friendly and welcoming, sharing stories of all the weddings she had hosted there over the years. Adam, his best man and I made the most of the quiet before the ceremony to take some relaxed portraits, a great way to ease into the day.

The ceremony itself was heartfelt and emotional. Nicola and Adam’s daughter gave a beautiful reading that had guests reaching for tissues. Afterward, everyone gathered outside for one of my favourite confetti shots ever, guests lined the street, showering the couple with (biodegradable of course) confetti as they made their way through. Inside, we took a stunning group photo on the grand staircase, one of Dunfermline’s most iconic features.

After the ceremony, everyone headed to Kirkcaldy Golf Club for the reception and I realised immediately how picturesque this setting was.

We took some gorgeous couple portraits on the first tee, carefully dodging golf balls and confused players. At one point, I asked a bridesmaid to gather the family for photos, and she accidentally brought the entire wedding party out from the reception! My heart sank as I saw the crowd heading our way, but we all had a good laugh about it.

Nicola looked absolutely amazing, and her bridesmaids were all warm, supportive and full of fun. The whole day was filled with humour, emotion and love, exactly what a wedding should be. I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to photograph.
