Chloe & Michael’s Winter Wedding at Forrester Park Resort

Saturday 10th January 2026

If you are searching for Forrester Park Resort wedding photography inspiration, Chloe and Michael’s beautiful winter wedding in Cairneyhill is the perfect example of how an incredible day is about people, not perfect weather.

Some weddings are planned years in advance. Others come together exactly as they are meant to. Chloe and Michael booked me just a few weeks before their big day after their original photographer cancelled. Thankfully, I had their date available. From our first chat, I knew it would be a relaxed, fun-filled wedding. They were completely in love and proud of the fact they had met on Tinder. A modern love story that led to a stunning Scottish winter wedding.

A Frosty Start at Forrester Park Resort

Adam, my second photographer, and I arrived just after 9am to what can only be described as a skating rink. Rain the night before had frozen solid, leaving the entire car park and entrance covered in thick ice. Unloading thousands of pounds worth of camera equipment while trying to stay upright was an adventure in itself.

Aside from a few determined early morning golfers, we were the first suppliers on site. I always arrive early when photographing a wedding at Forrester Park Resort. It gives me time to capture the venue before guests arrive.

Set within 350 acres of parkland in Fife, Forrester Park blends rustic charm with modern elegance. The ceremony space features tall pillars, warm ambient lighting and a beautiful architectural layout that works wonderfully for both photography and video. The LED column lighting was flickering slightly, which made video work interesting, but nothing we could not handle.

With a background in real estate photography, I always document the ceremony and reception rooms carefully. Couples choose their venue for a reason, and years from now those images will bring it all back.

Before the morning got busy, I also captured drone photographs of the building and grounds. Moody winter skies over Cairneyhill added drama and atmosphere to the images.

Bridal Prep and a Dress Worth the Risk

Chloe and her bridal party were incredibly relaxed. Hair and makeup were underway, music was playing, and the room was filled with laughter. Chloe’s mum and soon to be mother-in-law looked amazing, and her sister was soaking up every moment.

I started with the details. Rings, shoes, invitations. These small elements help tell the full wedding story.

Then came the dress: Chloe trusted me to take her very heavy gown into the ceremony space for photographs. I carefully hung it over the arch between the ceremony and reception rooms, balanced securely on the top of the door frame. It raised a few eyebrows from staff, but sometimes calculated risks create the most powerful images. The final photograph was absolutely worth it.

Groom Prep and a Funny Mix-Up

When I met the groomsmen, I briefly mistook Michael for Mike, the bride’s dad. In my defence, we had only spoken on the phone beforehand and Mike found it hilarious.

Once identities were confirmed, we captured some relaxed preparation shots and even braved the cold for a few outdoor portraits.

Back upstairs, we used a large floor mirror in Chloe’s room to create some beautiful and creative getting ready photographs. We then arranged a father and daughter first look with Mike. It was far more emotional than anyone expected, including him.

A Surprise Highlight Film

Throughout the day, Adam and I quietly captured short 2 to 3 second video clips alongside the photography. By the end of the wedding, we had recorded over 150 clips.

After the wedding, I edited them into a five minute highlight film set to romantic licensed music. It was not an add-on they had booked. It was a surprise.

Chloe’s reaction made the extra effort completely worthwhile and it is a fantastic addition to my hybrid wedding photography and videography portfolio.

The Ceremony at Forrester Park Resort

The ceremony room truly shines when filled with guests. The architectural features and warm tones create a stunning backdrop for wedding photography in Fife.

From the moment Chloe walked down the aisle, Michael struggled to hold back tears. He barely kept his eyes dry for more than a few minutes.

I photographed the ceremony using my Nikon Z8 cameras paired with a 24 to 70mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.2 lens. The 50mm lens is perfect for low light wedding ceremonies, allowing me to shoot without flash even in darker conditions.

I also used my 40 plus year old Minolta film camera loaded with Ilford black and white 35mm film. It is not subtle when the shutter fires, but the timeless results are always worth it.

When Wedding Plans Change

Weddings are beautifully unpredictable: As Chloe walked down the aisle, Michael’s mum walked in with Chloe’s mum. When they reached the front, she was unsure where to sit and unintentionally stood directly in front of me for what felt like forever. When I moved to capture the maid of honour entering behind her, she moved too.

In the end, I did not capture that traditional aisle shot of the maid of honour.

It is disappointing, but it is also real. Weddings are not film sets. You adapt, you move forward, and you focus on what matters most.

Family Formals and Fast Couples Portraits

The winter weather meant we kept most family photographs indoors. Chloe and Michael had a long list of group combinations, so I set up two off-camera flashes and worked efficiently through them.

Coordinating guests between the bar, the foyer and the smoking area sometimes feels like herding cats in formalwear, but we got there in the end.

We managed one large outdoor group photo using the drone before everyone sensibly headed back inside. Chloe and Michael wanted only a short couples session, around five minutes, so they could enjoy more time with family and friends. We kept it relaxed and natural, creating romantic portraits without heavy posing.

Sparklers, Speeches and a Sword Cake Cut

Around 30 guests braved the cold for sparkler photos outside. Winter night wedding photography always creates magic.

During the meal, I backed up all memory cards, selected ten highlight images, edited them and printed them using my portable Canon Selphy printer. Handing the couple printed photographs on their wedding day is always a special moment.

For the speeches, I experimented with my Insta360 X5 camera, recording in full 360 degrees. Unfortunately, my external microphone did not fully connect to the venue system, so the audio was not perfect. A reminder that I am primarily a photographer.

The couple had also booked a magician and a talented caricaturist for evening entertainment, which added fantastic energy to the reception.

The cake was cut with a three foot long sword, followed by a romantic first dance and a beautiful father and daughter dance.

Lessons From This Winter Wedding in Fife

Every wedding teaches something valuable:

  • Even perfect planning cannot control every movement during a ceremony.
  • Scottish winter weather can change your timeline quickly.
  • Flexibility is essential for great wedding photography.
  • Last minute bookings can turn into unforgettable celebrations.

Chloe and Michael’s wedding at Forrester Park Resort was not about perfect weather. It was about laughter, emotion and making the most of every moment. From icy car parks to sparkler-lit skies, it was a winter wedding full of heart.
